Sometimes known as ‘MDT’s’ (Mobile Data Terminals), in-vehicle PCs need to be robust enough to withstand just about anything that can be thrown at them; the extremes of temperature (certainly where storage & memory are concerned) with frequent & high levels of vibration. They have to be operational via the electrical supply of the vehicle which can be unrefined regarding voltage spikes and electrical noise.
Where are they used?
A good example of in-vehicle PC use is for emergency response vehicles – police response vehicles, ambulances or fire appliance vehicles -continually on the move, travelling at high speeds often on rough roads or terrain. The environment these vehicles are operational in requires fast and ‘always-on’ connectivity, which typically will be provided via cellular connectivity – 3G, 4G – and 5G. Additionally, the vehicle PC may need to manipulate, store and send (working as Network Video Recorder) high levels of data such as video feeds during critical situations in real-time for feedback and support – and ultimately, decision making
Tested under extreme temperature conditions and designed to withstand the shock and vibration that comes with driving a vehicle our In-Vehicle solutions can meet the demands of harsh working environments.

LEX Railway / Car PC remain stable even when the power input changes (Wide Range DC-IN / CPC module). LEX solutions are with aluminum chassis will be the excellent at Low EMI and heat dispatching solution (range of -40°C to 60°C), as well as having been fully tested for the railway operating environment in order to support EN50155 / EN50121 compliance and E-Mark ; ISO 7637 certification.
Industrial PC Components and Peripherals
Quite often it’s the case that no matter which industrial PC solution you’re aiming to design in – or already utilise, it never quite has all the i/o that you’d ideally want.
Whether you need additional i/o around communications (multiple PoE, Canbus, GbE LAN, DIO or RS232/422/485,), Storage (multiple SATA 3, USB 3.0 or M.2) or display output (multiple HDMI, DVI-D, VGA or 18/24 bit LVDS) – we’ll have an expansion solution via mPCIe, PCIe or M.2 that’ll suit your needs.
Additionally, we can provide video capture solutions from SD through to 4K, with hardware compression or in raw data format via PCIe, PCI, M.2 and mPCIe – all ably backed up with up to date SDK’s (software development kits) to allow users to develop their own application or features at a rapid pace.

Can’t find what you need from our range of standard in vehicle solutions?
Our OEM design services can be applied to practically any area that we work within transportation – and this is no different regarding in vehicle solutions.
Providing custom PC solutions to suit harsh environments is just part of what we do; operational in wide & diverse temperature expanses, manufactured to be shock resistant, dust and waterproof (IP certified), with wide voltage input (9-36V DC power supply) and local (WiFi) and cellular connectivity.
It’s not just your hardware that needs to be reliable. We’ll also provide you with generic or tailored configurations of embedded versions of Microsoft Windows to provide robust, ready-to-run O/S environments embedding your application (if you so wish) into the image for mass deployment to ensure that your PC platform, all round, is rock solid in its operation.
Our choice of Industrial PC Components provide for long production availabilities of (at least) between 5 and 7 years. Should you require it, we can also extend designs for longer availabilities allowing your product to be manufactured for the years beyond those typically expected for an industrial design.
All of our custom designs come either pre-certified with typical safety standards, such as CE, FCC Class B, ECE R10 or E-marking (E13) along certificates of conformity. Or they can come ‘certified ready’ if your preference is to apply any required certifications yourselves.
