Concept

The design process can begin with a concept or idea—anything from a simple sketch or a documented requirement specification to an existing prototype or production design that needs improvement.

Our concept-to-design approach is collaborative. We work closely with you, always focusing on the final design and ensuring that each step is aligned with key objectives, such as the product’s thermal management, compliance with industry standards like UKCA and FCC, and the product’s testing regime upon completion of manufacture.

From Concept to Creation: The Design and Manufacturing Process at BVM

Design

Moving on from the product concept, the journey towards designing PC prototypes and other custom hardware, such as PCBs, Cables, and Enclosures, is a vital next stage in your product’s evolution.

  • Prototypes: BVM will design functional prototypes to create a working industrial PC model of the product you envision for future production. Upon producing the prototype, it will be used for testing and validation to ensure it meets your specified criteria. Additionally, the prototype will aid in refining the design process and further development, aiming to achieve a production-ready product.

Quite often, the prototype will involve other specific custom elements in order to provide your product with the functionality it needs, inclusive of  :-

  • Custom PCB’s: BVM can design custom printed circuit boards (PCBs), including the creation of PCB schematics and layouts to optimize circuit performance, minimize component count, conform to product size requirements, and improve reliability and serviceability—all using our in-house CAD system, Altium.
  • Custom Cables and Enclosures / Chassis: Where required, BVM will also design custom cables for internal connectivity, power supplies, and custom enclosures/chassis that meet the specific requirements of the final product design.
  • Design for Manufacture (‘DFM’): All products designed at BVM are optimized for efficient and cost-effective assembly that can be completed on a repeatable basis. By following the DFM design process, BVM provides customers with bespoke solutions manufactured to the highest standards of quality and reliability.

Create

This is the final step – the one that effectively brings your product to market – to your standards and on time. BVM’s manufacturing services encompass several key steps that ensure the final product meets your requirements, including:

  • Testing: Our manufacturing process consists of several stages of testing to ensure the manufactured product operates correctly and is defect-free. This includes burn-in and soak testing, thermal performance testing, and environmental testing to verify that the product can endure the conditions it will be exposed to and function as expected. We can also develop test routines to qualify individual components, such as custom PCB designs.
  • Materials Management: BVM ensures the correct materials and components are used during the manufacturing process, and that individual components and their sub-assemblies are trackable throughout. This includes goods-in inspection, product serialization, management of End of Life (EoL) and Last Time Buy (LTB), and an easy-to-use online RMA system to quickly identify and report any product issues for swift resolution.
  • Logistics and Tracking: Once the product is manufactured, BVM manages the logistics and tracking, ensuring traceability of shipments (proof of delivery), product labeling, and OEM/branded packaging to guarantee on-time and perfect-condition delivery.
