Edge servers are physically close to the systems or applications that’s creating the data – and is being stored on, or used by, the server. The Edge server plays a role in making the computational decisions ahead of time, sending only filtered data to the Cloud, saving both time and (hopefully) money. The iEi ‘TANK-880’ is a device that can act as a highly efficient Edge server. It comes with a variety of high-performance CPU solutions, is rich in i/o and contains multiple expansion slots for add-on cards, such as the Mustang AI accelerator to run AI, or the increasing popularity around PoE – but mainly in the assistance of your Cloud to reduce workload and get data organised and filtered faster.
