Lunar Lake’s Innovative Memory Architecture

Intel Lunar Lake processors features on-package LPDDR5X-8533 RAM in 16 GB or 32 GB capacities, similar to Apple’s M series SoCs. This integration enhances memory bandwidth while reducing power consumption and latency. Intel claims a 40% reduction in power consumption and saves “up to 250 square millimeters” of space. The on-package design allows for a smaller processor footprint, eliminating the need for a separate motherboard and cooling solution, which simplifies cooling in ultra-low power devices.

However, this memory is not user-replaceable or upgradeable beyond 32 GB with SO-DIMMs. The inclusion of on-package memory adds 2 W to the TDP of Lunar Lake processors, which range from 17 to 30 W, compared to Meteor Lake-H processors’ 15 to 28 W TDP.
