“BVM’s Embedded ‘Industrial PC Design to Order’ services takes your ideas from initial concept through to design, prototyping, and finally, manufacturable products“
Ensuring Product Longevity
Selecting the right Industrial PC components is crucial for long production availability, typically between 5 and 7 years. BVM extends this availability, allowing your product to be manufactured beyond the usual industrial design lifespan. Our materials management services ensure a smooth transition when components reach the end of their life, efficiently adopting next-generation components.
Custom Solutions for Diverse Environments
Our OEM “Design to Order” processes are versatile, supporting products for various industrial applications, including extreme environments and specialized uses. Our designs ensure reliable operation and maximum uptime, even in challenging conditions. We offer solutions that are shock-resistant, dustproof, waterproof (IP certified), and optimized for continuous 24/7 operation.
Our Design Process
At BVM, we start by understanding your product’s needs in detail. We create a ‘Requirement Specification,’ our memorandum of understanding, to ensure clarity on:
- Product functionality
- Key features and market competitiveness
- Aesthetics and user experience
- Time to market and budget constraints
With over 35 years of expertise, our ‘Build to Order’ team knows what makes a successful embedded system design.
Our Design Considerations Include:
- Power budget optimization
- Thermal management
- Design for manufacturability and testability
- Component selection for extended availability
- Obsolescence management (EOL and Last Time Procurement)
From Design to Proof of Concept
Detailed design work begins only after the Requirement Specification is approved. Once the specifications are finalized, the design team initiates the creation of initial designs that serve as the foundation for the project’s development. This phase leads to the development of a “proof of concept” (PoC), which is a working unit designed to verify various critical aspects such as functionality, aesthetics, and budget constraints.
The PoC helps in identifying potential issues and ensures that the project proceeds smoothly by addressing any design flaws or unmet requirements early in the process. By validating these elements beforehand, the team can make informed decisions and adjustments, paving the way for a more robust and successful eventual product.
Pre-Production and Field Testing
Following the PoC, we produce pre-production and field trial prototypes to validate manufacturability and testability. Our entire process is governed by BVM’s Quality Management System, certified to ISO-9001:2015 standards.
“A successful product requires not only competent functional design,
but also must be designed for manufacture”
BVM Products are Designed for Manufacture
Design for Manufacture (Design for Manufacturability or DFM) is the engineering process of designing products to ensure they’re efficient to manufacture.
Our design team plan a level of detail during both the initial concept and prototype phases – well before any level of product volume is reached. During the initial design processes, the design will be refined and honed along the way to make it suitable for repeatable production.
Our designs will always consider:
- Set up and tooling costs
- Volume production costs
- Maintenance costs
- Environmental effects
BVM’s Design for Manufacture processes will always allow every commercial (and technical) consideration to be identified within design phase, the most cost-effective place to catch & address everything.
Our industrial and embedded product design-to-order projects have included:
- Advanced PCI Express peripherals and expansion bridges.
- High specification PCI Express splitter devices to allow multiple devices to be driven from standard embedded motherboards
- Baseboards for Computer-on-Module processor boards, such as COM Express and Qseven implementing customers I/O & display requirements onto the baseboard and allowing processing to be handled by a standard module.
