BVM customers often require bespoke enclosure designs to withstand the demanding environments their products operate in. This is particularly important when enclosures must be sealed against dust, water, or hazardous substances, requiring a certified Ingress Protection (IP) rating.

Systems may also face extreme temperature challenges — from external conditions or internal heat generation. While low-power CPUs such as Intel Atom or ARM can help minimise heat, some applications demand higher-performance processors, which increase thermal output.

While it’s common to rely on the chassis for heat dissipation, BVM also offers custom mounting solutions — such as faceplates, backplates, or brackets — which can act as additional thermal pathways to help draw heat away from the system.

Shock and Vibration

For applications exposed to shock and vibration — such as those in road vehicles, trains, or aircraft — standard off-the-shelf components may not be suitable. In these cases, custom solutions are essential for durability and performance.

When designing a custom cooling assembly, we begin by reviewing the thermal and mechanical design guide for the intended CPU. These guides provide essential specs and may reveal unique footprint or mounting requirements that differ from what you’ve used previously. In many cases, CPU manufacturers also offer guidance on the most effective mounting methods.

Our design team plan a level of detail during both the initial concept and prototype phases – well before any level of product volume is reached. During the initial design processes, the design will be refined and honed along the way to make it suitable for repeatable production.
