Customer Requirements

The client required an advanced industrial touchscreen PC solution for integration into on-site construction vehicles. The system needed to:

• Ensure system stability and balance to protect vehicle operators during operation.
• Remain fully operational under diverse weather and temperature conditions.
• Feature a low-power, versatile computer capable of rapid boot times, enabling both Windows and the client’s proprietary software to initialise in under 45 seconds.

The solution needed to combine rugged reliability, operational efficiency, and user-friendly functionality to enhance both safety and productivity.

Application Solution

In response to the client’s requirements, BVM deployed a 7” Embedded Panel PC using Winmate’s FM07 Vehicle Mounted Computer (VMC) Panel PC, configured with a bespoke Windows 10 IoT LTSC 2019 operating system to optimise boot times.

Key Features of the Solution:

• Processing Power: Intel Celeron N3350 Apollo Lake processor delivering capable computing performance while maintaining low power consumption.
• Display & Interface: 7” TFT display (1024 × 600) with integrated projected capacitive multi-touch screen for intuitive user interaction.
• Power Flexibility: Wide input range of 9–36V DC with ignition support for versatile vehicle power integration.
• Connectivity: M12 waterproof connectors for consistent operation in harsh environmental conditions.
• Durability & Compliance: IP65-rated ingress protection, E-Mark certification for EMC compliance, and MIL-STD-810G standard adherence to withstand shock and vibration.
• Optimised Boot Performance: Custom Windows 10 IoT LTSC image configured by BVM to achieve a ‘ready-to-run’ application state within the target boot time of 45 seconds.

The implementation of the bespoke Windows 10 IoT LTSC 2021 operating system proved transformative. Boot times were reduced by over 50%, verified during initial sample unit trials with the client. Following approval, a full production supply of 30 units per month was established, ensuring continuous deployment across operational vehicles.
