GMSL

GMSL stands for Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link. It’s a high-speed serial interface technology (originally developed by Maxim Integrated, now Analog Devices) used to transmit video, data, and control signals over a single coaxial or shielded twisted-pair cable. In practical terms, GMSL is commonly used for:

  1. High-resolution camera connections
  2. Long cable runs (often up to 15–30 metres)
  3. Low-latency, high-bandwidth video transmission
  4. Automotive, robotics, and industrial vision applications

When you see GMSL2, that refers to the second generation, which supports higher bandwidth, higher resolutions, and multiple synchronized cameras—perfect for AI vision systems like Jetson-based platforms.
