Raspberry Pi Prototype Design
The popularity of the Raspberry Pi has been immense, with over 25 million having been sold up to February 2019. The product was originally designed in order to get school children & developing countries interested in computer science but has since found its way into the commercial and industrial markets for hardware developers. Whilst the ‘standard’ Raspberry Pi was never designed for industrial applications, in April 2014 the Raspberry Pi Foundation launched the compute module, aimed at business and industrial users who wanted to move to a suitable ‘Pi’ hardware platform.
Using standard design practices for specification development, conceptual design, prototyping, testing and, ultimately, rollout of hardware with integrated application software – hardware platforms, such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi, may help expedite a design faster and allow rapid prototyping without involved customisation, consequently reducing development time required to implement a prototype design.
But what happens once you’ve completed your prototype ?
How do you turn your development hardware platform into a reproduceable & manufacturable product ?

Raspberry Pi Prototype Design to a Manufacturable Product
BVM are often approached by customers who have prototyped a system using a Raspberry Pi but have been unable to take the next step in turning their prototypes into manufacturable products. BVM can take prototypes on this basis and work with you to make the conversion towards the achieving of a commercial product which can be reproduced on a repeatable basis.
With over 30 years of experience of designing systems for both our own products and producing bespoke OEM designs for our customer products, we’ll initially commence your design in agreeing the specification needed to take your product to market. On deriving your specification, our electronic hardware engineers will develop the PCB layout, whilst in parallel, our mechanical engineering design team will design & model any custom enclosures required to package your product up and facilitate connectivity (i/o) to the outside world.

Moving through from design, development and into initial prototyping, we’ll also deploy your application to prove functionality & features, configure & deploy your operating system of choice – even taking your product through any necessary compliance testing through to certification. Because we’ll have implemented ‘design for manufacture’ during the design & development stages, we can also take care of manufacturing for volume – inclusive of functional test, final inspection & packaging in our production facilities near Southampton.
Being a ISO9001 registered company since 1995, you have the assurances BVM have the necessary quality assurance practices in place to ensure that we can reliably meet your needs.
