
ASRock iEP-7020E Industrial IoT Controller – Intelligent Control at the Edge
ASRock Industrial have released their iEP-7020E Industrial IoT Controller Series enabled by 13th Gen Intel Core Embedded Processors (Raptor Lake-P) to provide optimised performance and scalability.
With Intel Iris Xe graphics for fast AI and Intel In-Band ECC support, the system delivers intelligent and reliable control for vital processes at the edge. The iEP-7020E Series features flexibilities around I/O and additional expansion – and are designed with Intel TCC and TSN support for real-time computing to smoothly connect edge devices, all in one compact form factor.
The system’s fan-less and rugged design guarantees functionality even in the harshest of environments, with -40°C to +70°C wide temperature operation and 9V-36VDC wide range DC-IN power input. It’s the ultimate ideal Edge Controller and IoT Gateway for applications involved within smart manufacturing, factory automation, robotics, process automation, smart city, smart retail and AI surveillance – to name but a few.
Intelligent Control with 13th Gen Intel Core Processors
With CPU and GPU enhancement, the iEP-7020E Series enables streamlined solutions for high-performance data acquisition and control capability in Edge computing, whilst delivering real-time visual insights with intelligence.
The iEP-7020E Series Industrial IoT Controller includes the iEP-7020E-000 (Basic SKU), iEP-7020E-001 (PoE SKU), and iEP-7020E-002 (5LAN SKU) all ably supported by 13th Gen Intel Core i7/i5 Embedded Industrial Processors (Raptor Lake-P). The performance hybrid architecture supports up to 14 cores and 20 threads for computing-intensive process control, secured optimised performance and energy efficiency while delivering up to 1.08x faster single-thread performance and up to 1.05x faster multi-thread performance over previous Intel Core generations. The Intel Iris Xe Graphics provide up to 96 execution units (EUs) for graphical acceleration, along with dual channel DDR4 3200MHz SO-DIMM DRAM up to 64GB supported Intel® In-Band ECC for fast AI inference whilst still securing reliable data integrity.
Rich I/O Connectivity and Flexible Configurations
The iEP-7020E Series is provided in the compact sizes of 55 x 170 x 134 mm (W x H x D) regarding the iEP-7020E-000 (Basic SKU) / 002 (5 x LAN SKU) and 68 x 170 x 134 mm (W x H x D) for the iEP-7020E-001 (PoE SKU).
The series is equipped with a capable mixture of I/O, inclusive of 4 x RS232/422/485 serial ports, 4DIs/4DOs with power-on/reset, 3 x USB 3.2 Gen 2×1, 1 x USB 2.0, and 1 x line out/mic in to enable connectivity to a variety of other supporting devices .
In addition, there are 3 x 2.5GbE Intel i226-IT LAN with vPro support, 2 x 1GbE Intel i210-AT LAN (PoE SKU/5LAN SKU) plus an optional two Intel i210AT supporting IEEE 802.3AF PoE (PoE SKU) with Intel TCC and TSN for real-time computing at the edge. And the series supports 2 x DP++ 1.4a for perfect computer vision processing.
RF Capability and Expandability for Flawless IT/OT Connection
The iEP-7020E Series supports 4G LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2 RF capabilities with the option of fitting 3 x 4G LTE / 2 x Wi-Fi antenna – or 4 x 5G /2 x Wi-Fi antenna to offer high-speed data collection and transmission.
The series comes with a variety of expansion capability, including 1 x M.2 Key B socket (3042/3052/2280) for 4G LTE/5G module/SATA3 SSD storage (iEP-7020E-000), 1 x M.2 Key E (2230) for Wi-Fi/BT module – with the addition of 1 x Nano SIM card slot for 4G/5G.
For storage support, there’s a SATA3 connector for 2.5” SSD (iEP-7020E-000) and 1 x M.2 Key M 2280 for NVMe SSD. The RF connections with Intel In-Band Manageability enable reliable remote management, firmware/software/application of over-the-air (OTA) updates plus M2M protocol.

Rugged Design and Robust Power for Demanding Environments
In supporting long-term reliability and durability, deployment in harsh environments is the iEP-7020E Series’ speciality.
Facilitated by a rugged design and an expansive operating temperature range of -40°C to 70°C (iEP-7020E-000), the iEP-7020E Series has a high shock/vibration resistance for dependable functionality in harsh environments.
Featuring complete power protection of OVP, UVP, OCP, plus 80V Surge Protection, the iEP-7020E-000/002 bring a robust & flexible power input range of 9-36VDC – whilst the iEP-7020E-001 provides a 19-36VDC wide range DC input range supported via Phoenix type connector for industrial applications.
For industrial security, TPM 2.0 is built-in to set up a trusted computing platform. Additionally, the unique addition of one storage/one user-definition/two debug LEDs lighting signals provides for the completion of debugging activities for the reduction of machine downtime. The series is equipped with various mounting options inclusive of wall and VESA mount – and via DIN rail, to offer flexibilities around device affixing needs.
