Introduction
Our client, a global leader in oilfield services operating across 120 countries, provides comprehensive engineered solutions for oil well drilling, formation evaluation, completion, production, and reservoir consulting. Their mission combines innovation, efficiency, and reliability to support demanding operations worldwide.
The Requirement
The client required a bespoke ruggedised portable PC to streamline in-field test and monitoring processes. The system needed to integrate their proprietary test electronics in the format of an LCR (inductance, capacitance, and resistance) meter, creating a fully functional test unit that was portable and capable of deployment in harsh environments.
Key requirements included:
- High-brightness TFT touch display for clear daylight visibility.
- Embedded PC platform to drive the display and manage test electronics.
- Flexible I/O connectivity for integration with external equipment.
- Rugged, weather-resistant construction suitable for field use, achieving IP65 ingress protection.
The system needed to combine portability with robustness, enabling engineers to conduct critical measurements efficiently, even in challenging conditions.
The Solution: Bespoke Ruggedised Portable PC
BVM designed and manufactured a custom PELI 1400 Pelicase portable PC solution to meet these specifications. The system featured:
- Rugged, IP65-Rated Enclosure using the PELI 1400 Pelicase to withstand harsh weather and field environments while maintaining portability.
- Embedded 3.5” Single Board Computer with an Intel Elkhart Lake J6412 SoC processor, operating at a low 10W TDP for energy-efficient performance.
- 10.1” High-Brightness TFT Display with 1280 × 800 resolution and a pre-bonded projective capacitive touch interface, ensuring optimal visibility in daylight conditions.
- Custom Integration of the client’s LCR test electronics and a full range of I/O connectors for external connectivity.
